Alisa Ang
Adult Ballet Foundation, Body Conditioning & Primary Ballet III Teacher

Alisa Ang started her dance/ballet training in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. After her studies, she decided to audition for a diploma program with LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore. After a year, she attended an audition for The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. She got through the audition and continued her Diploma in Performing Arts (2006) in Hong Kong.

During her first year in the Academy, Alisa participated in the Hong Kong Arts Festival 2006, dancing in Yuri Ng’s Butterfly Lovers. Alisa also had the opportunity to learn the technical side of stage management as Assistant Stage Manager in the academy’s repertory performances.

With her family’s full support, Alisa furthered her studies through the Bachelor of Fine Arts program and graduated with First Class Honours in 2009. In the same year, Alisa was awarded the Ballet Faculty Scholarship 2009. Although Alisa had been busy with her training and studies, she also made time to volunteer with The Hong Kong Arts Festival as a Youth Volunteer in 2008/2009 and was awarded the Bronze Award.

During her studies, she appeared in both classical & contemporary works from choreographers such as Yuri Ng (Everything I Need to Know I Learnt From The Propaganda Ballets), John Utans (If These Walls Could Talk), Selina Chau (When Light Shines Through), Stella Lau (Excerpt from The Sleeping Beauty, Excerpts from Napoli) and Graeme Collins (Fragmented Dialogues). Alisa also participated in the Bates Dance Festival 2008 in Maine, USA, doing a short piece put together by Nora Chipaumire (Black Silt). With Mr. Yuri Ng’s permission and under the guidance of Ms. Stella Lau, she re-staged Butterfly Lovers for her Diploma Program juniors and dancers from the Gifted Young Dancer Program for their year-end repertory showcase.

After Alisa graduated, she taught at a ballet studio in Hong Kong for 2 months before deciding to return to Singapore. In Singapore, Alisa has performed with ECNAD in a projects and also in a 4-day performance titled Bun & Stone in March 2010.

I started ballet classes with Hsienfa in 2000 and his patient instruction inspired me to develop a passion for dance. I have never looked back since. Ballet gives me a new way to express myself and I also love the music. I really enjoy classes at Cheng Ballet and the stage exposure during productions helped to increase my confidence.

It is rare to find teachers like Hsienfa and Yaling who encourage and motivate students to reach their potential, no matter what their ability, experience, age, size, or body shape.

Thanks, Fiona
